I
have been an educater for 37 years, 23 of those years as an Administrator.
Since my retirement four years ago, I have spent much of my time
pursuing two long-standing hobbies that I never seemed to quite have
enough time for before: Birding and Photography. Coinciding with that pursuit,
I have been volunteering at the visitor's station at the Ridgefield National Wildlife
Refuge River
"S' Unit, Ridgefield, WA.
Since I started volunteering at the refuge, I have tried to
photograph every one of the common and some of the not-so-common birds seen
at the refuge. I have put these photographs into two albums which
have been donated to the refuge. One is at the refuge headquarters and the
other is at the Visitor's Kiosk.
I
have been a photographer and a birder for much of my adult life.
I began “shooting” with a Minolta SRT 101 over 35 years ago.
It was about eight years ago that I began to change to digital. I now shoot exclusively digital. I use a Canon EOS 7D camera and my primary lens
for photographing birds is the Canon 400 f/5.6. I also, at times, use a 1.4 Canon extender with
my lens. Many of the bird pictures
that you will find in this gallery were taken at the Ridgefield NWR, several
having won local and national recognition.
Photographic prints can always be purchased.
I
also enjoy community involvement. I have just recently served on two boards—the
Center Point Community Outreach Board in Meadow Glade, WA., just outside
Battle Ground, and the Friends of the Ridgefield NWR Board.
My wife and I have just celebrated our 43rd anniversary.
We have two sons, one an M.D. and the other a Development Manager
at Microsoft. They live with their families in Southern California and Seattle where my wife and I spend
much of our time enjoying our children and grandchildren.
I truly hope that you enjoy going through this gallery as much as I have
enjoyed taking the pictures. If by going through the gallery, you are
inspired to "go birding" or to get your camera out and "go
shooting," then I have accomplished my goal for this web site.
Happy Birding,
Roger Windemuth
